From the beginning

Food has always been at the root of my community, just in different ways. As a young kid, family gatherings were always started with a prayer in a big circle around my grandmas kitchen.

As a student I studied Culinary arts, worked as a Chef and eventually created my own business providing farm to school lunches and student run gardens.

Agriculture has always been a calling, from volunteering on Chef Rob’s CSA farm to raising laying hens in Illinois, growing things became a constant. I became fascinated with a seeds life cycle, the importance of challenging work, the ebbs and flows of the seasons and the connection this work provides to the Earth.

The goal has always been to connect the community through food, and agriculture.

Early Bird Farms sits on the highest point in Warren County, Missouri and is 7.5 acres of mixed terrain. The farm produces bedding plants, hanging baskets, garden starts, and culinary herbs. Fresh offerings of fruit and vegetables can be found through the season at the farm store, Lake St. Louis Farmers Market, and through wholesale markets.

Here at the farm we utilize greenhouses and high tunnels to produce plants early, and also extend the growing season. These covered structures provide the local community high quality local products throughout the year.

Some of our terrain with a steep grade has been planted in perennial crops like rhubarb, asparagus, blackberries, and peach trees. Planting perennials, means less soil disturbance, and allowing erosion control along the steeper grade.

Our greenhouses are open to both home gardeners and wholesale clients, offering a wide variety of items for the green thumb in all of us.

Aside from the nursery, we aim to harvest the first tomatoes in late May and cut the last of the spinach near Christmas. Harvesting cucumbers, green beans, sweet corn, watermelon and peppers in between.

Signup for our Newsletter (Field Notes) for updates on the harvests, events and happenings around the farm.
